Srinagar, Sep 15 (TKM): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated the high-capacity parcel train service, aimed at providing an efficient transport system for perishable goods from the region. The service is expected to significantly support the local economy and reduce dependency on road transport.

“We are very happy to announce that our high-capacity parcel train service has started from here,” the LG said while speaking to reporters. “Every day about 23-24 tons of apples or other perishable goods will be transported from here. I believe this will be a big contribution to the economic development of this place.”

Highlighting the valley’s transport challenges, he said, “Every day we see that due to heavy rains and the topography, the national highway is also closed. This is causing a lot of destruction. I believe that in the coming days, a very good transport system will be started by the railway.”

Expressing gratitude, he added, “I thank Bharatiya Railways and I believe that this will give a big boost to the economy of this place.”

The new service is expected to provide a reliable alternative to road transport, which is often disrupted by adverse weather conditions. With the daily movement of fruits like apples and other perishables now possible via rail, local farmers and traders stand to gain from reduced delays and enhanced market access.(TKM)
