Srinagar, Jul 13: National Conference Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Syed Aga Ruhullah, on Monday vehemently opposed any attempts at horse-trading to destabilise the government, asserting that the Omar Abdullah-led dispensation should be allowed to complete its full term.

“A few days ago, I said in an interview that I am against it. No matter how many disagreements I have with the party, and there is no doubt about it, I am totally against horse-trading,” MP Ruhullah told reporters during his visit to Shopian district as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

The Srinagar MP’s remarks come amid speculation about political instability in the Union Territory. He alleged that efforts were being made by the BJP to engineer defections by luring legislators with money.

“And people from the party, from the government, on the basis of money, on the basis of the greed of the BJP, people should be left behind and horse-trading should take place, and this government should be broken. I am just as much against it,” MP Ruhullah stated.

“This government should be given the opportunity to fulfill its time,” he said, adding that “any horse-trading is against democracy, is against this mandate.”

MP Ruhullah, who has often been at odds with his party leadership, maintained that disagreements, if any, must be on the basis of principles and not dictated by the BJP. “Even if there are disagreements, they should be on the basis of principles, not on the basis of what the BJP says, not on the greed of the BJP’s money, not because of the fear of the BJP,” he asserted.

MP further said that those who are being targeted should introspect. “The Chief Minister only talked about one person, according to me there are many people who talk, so all of them should look into their pockets, and the Chief Minister should also look into his pockets, why he has come to this position, where people doubt our government.”

He further questioned the government’s functioning, saying if it had worked on principles and the mandate, neither the BJP could have created such doubts nor would there have been doubts in people’s minds.

“So I will say again, whether it is 20 crores or for free, no one should be allowed to do horse-trading,” MP Ruhullah further said. (KNS)
