Srinagar, Oct 21 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi (IPS), on Tuesday directed officers to intensify vigil and strengthen the overall security grid across the Valley in view of the prevailing situation.

He emphasized that proactive and preventive measures are key to maintaining peace and thwarting any potential threats.

Chairing a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar, IGP Birdi instructed field officers to increase night checking, step up area domination, and ensure coordinated patrolling in sensitive and vulnerable areas. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Army, and intelligence agencies, including Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General, and district Senior Superintendents of Police from across the Kashmir Zone.

According to officials, the IGP reviewed the prevailing security scenario and discussed strategies to counter emerging challenges. He stressed the importance of robust inter-agency coordination and real-time intelligence sharing to facilitate timely responses to any situation. “All agencies must work in complete synergy to prevent any attempt that could disturb peace.

Coordination and information flow should be seamless and continuous,” Birdi told the officers.
The IGP further underscored the need to strengthen surveillance and ensure that all security formations remain alert, especially during the night and in areas with recent suspicious movements. He also directed field officers to focus on community engagement, strengthen police-public relations, and build confidence among local residents to support the security apparatus in maintaining order.

Birdi highlighted that the collective effort of all forces was crucial to maintaining peace and ensuring public safety. “Our approach should be proactive rather than reactive. We must anticipate challenges and act before they turn into situations,” he said, while calling for strict adherence to standard operating procedures during all security operations.

During the meeting, district SSPs briefed the IGP about local security assessments, ongoing operations, and measures taken to prevent incidents of violence or infiltration. Officers also discussed strategies to secure upcoming events and maintain smooth law and order in their respective jurisdictions.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment by all participating agencies to intensify surveillance, reinforce coordination, and implement the discussed measures effectively. Officials said the IGP’s directions aimed to ensure continued peace and stability across the Kashmir Valley through strengthened vigilance and unified security efforts.
