Srinagar, July 19 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday that India will fully use its rightful share of water resources to benefit its people, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, while also supplying other regions of the country.

“India’s water will now flow for India, stop in India, and serve the people of India,” he said, as per KNS, adding that with the treaty now in effect, India will have full control over the Jhelum and Chenab rivers.

He said Pakistan’s reliance on these waters, which support 16 million hectares of farmland, 80 percent of irrigation, and 93 percent of total water use, will bring serious economic challenges.“The direct impact of this treaty will be felt in Pakistan’s economy, a lesson future generations will remember,” Sinha said.

Sinha said the decision will start a new phase of infrastructure and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir and called Sant Kumar Sharma’s monograph on the treaty “timely and important” for informing the younger generation about its background.(KNS)
