Srinagar, Jun 2 : Jammu and Kashmir’s education and health minister, Sakina Itoo, announced on Tuesday a sharp turnaround in college admissions across the Union Territory, with enrolments rising over seven percent in the first round itself—reversing a declining trend seen in recent years.
“This year, due to the decisions taken to ease and simplify the admission process in government degree colleges across J&K, we have witnessed a significant increase in student enrolment,” Itoo said in a post on X as per KNS.
According to data shared by the minister, admissions in the very first round reached 49,155 compared to 45,920 last year—an increase of over seven percent.
“By the completion of the admission process, we expect total admissions to cross 55,000 by the end of June, representing nearly a 20 percent increase over the previous year,” she added.
Minister Itoo said the encouraging response reflects the success of the government’s efforts to make higher education more accessible, transparent, and student-friendly across Jammu and Kashmir.
“We remain committed to ensuring that every aspiring student gets an opportunity to pursue quality higher education,” the minister said. (KNS)
