Srinagar, Feb 13 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that there is no proposal to waive Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans for farmers affected by recent floods or blockades.

The reply, provided by the Agriculture Production Department to a question raised by an MLA, said KCC is a central government-backed financial scheme that provides soft loans at lower interest rates to benefit farmers across the country.

Officials noted that the scheme is designed to support agricultural and horticultural activities, and the government does not have a mandate to grant loan waivers under its provisions. Farmers can, however, continue to access credit under the scheme for various crop and horticulture-related purposes.

The government said it remains committed to supporting the agriculture sector through existing financial instruments and other schemes aimed at mitigating losses caused by natural events or infrastructural disruptions.(KNS).
