Srinagar, Mar 6 : Jammu and Kashmir minister Sakeena Itoo has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan seeking an extension of the application deadline for the NEET-UG 2026 examination, citing internet connectivity issues faced by students in the Kashmir division.

In a letter dated March 6, Itoo said many students in the region were facing difficulties while applying for the medical entrance examination due to restricted internet speed imposed to maintain law and order.

She said the connectivity problems had affected the ability of several aspirants to complete the online application process within the stipulated deadline.

The minister pointed out that the national-level entrance test is crucial for students seeking admission to medical and related courses, and any disruption in the application process could adversely impact their academic prospects.

Itoo said a large number of students, particularly those from remote and rural areas, depend on stable internet services to access the online application portal.

“In view of the above circumstances, it is requested that the last date for submission of NEET-UG 2026 applications may kindly be extended so that all eligible candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Kashmir division, get an opportunity to apply,” she said in the letter.

She also urged the Union education ministry to take an early and sympathetic view of the matter in the interest of students in the Union Territory.(KNS).
