Srinagar, Aug 21 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha underscored a new chapter of progress in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the region’s youth now channel their energy through sports rather than protests.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival at SKICC, nestled on the picturesque shores of Dal Lake, LG Sinha highlighted the positive transformation that has taken place in the Union Territory over the recent years.
Addressing athletes and guests from across the country, Sinha encouraged sportspersons to act as messengers of the new Jammu and Kashmir. “The image of this region has changed dramatically. Instead of shutdowns and street unrest, we now have a calendar full of sporting events,” he said, urging participants to carry this message across the nation.
Sinha praised the sporting potential of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the youth—once caught in a cycle of uncertainty—are now emerging as national-level achievers across various sports.
He credited this shift to the central government’s commitment to youth development and sports infrastructure under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged the strategic investment in sports infrastructure, especially in water and winter sports, which has enabled J&K to host major events, including international tournaments like the Legends League in Srinagar. “These events not only showcase the talent of our youth but also reflect the immense opportunities the region now offers,” he noted.
He also touched on the recent tragedies caused by cloudbursts in the Kishtwar and Kathua districts, assuring the affected families of complete government support and assistance. “We stand with those impacted and will extend every possible help,” he added.
Further, Sinha spoke about the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the nation through landmark infrastructure projects. “The railway connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari is not just about physical connectivity—it represents a deeper national integration,” he said.
Over the coming days, Dal Lake is expected to be alive with activity as young athletes from across India compete, not just in sport, but in a celebration of unity, growth, and peace. The festival, Sinha remarked, is a testimony to the region’s progress and the resilience of its youth.(KNS).
