SRINAGAR, Jan 22 : Nasir Bashir from Jammu and Kashmir has been named a Technical Official for Rugby at the upcoming School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National Championship. The event is scheduled to be held from January 29 to February 3.
A senior official of the Sports Council informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Bashir’s selection is a recognition of his demonstrated technical expertise, professional discipline, and stature within the sporting community.
“An appointment to a national SGFI event carries significant responsibility; it is not merely symbolic,” the official said. “It reflects the federation’s confidence in his ability to uphold fair play, enforce competition rules, and ensure the smooth conduct of matches featuring the nation’s leading school-level athletes.”
The appointment is viewed as a moment of pride for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In a sporting landscape often dominated by rhetoric, this national-level role underscores Bashir’s tangible contributions to the development of rugby.
Notably, Bashir previously served as a referee for rugby at the 68th National School Games, held at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna from December 28, 2024, to January 2, 2025.(KNS)
