Srinagar, Jul 6 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday felicitated 32 recipients of the Kashmir Women’s Organization (KWO) Fellowship at a ceremony here, asserting that women’s empowerment is the cornerstone of a ‘Viksit Jammu and Kashmir’ and their progress is synonymous with the progress of society.
Addressing the gathering at Lok Bhavan, the LG hailed the fellows as embodiments of the Union Territory’s ongoing transformation towards a future anchored in self-confidence, equal opportunities, and dignity for all. “By challenging deeply entrenched stereotypes, these fellows have redefined what is possible. They have paved a new path for future generations,” he said.
Sinha lauded the KWO for creating a robust platform for the region’s ‘Nari Shakti’ to embrace their talent and identities. He paid homage to historical icons like Rani Didda, Kota Rani, and Lal Ded, noting that the women of J&K have always scaled the highest peaks of strength.
Outlining a progressive vision powered by women leaders, the LG said, “I envision a Jammu Kashmir where women lead in academia, industry, social organizations, and governance—shaping policies, driving entrepreneurship, and enriching our culture.” He added, “I envision a J&K where every young girl grows up believing her dreams are valuable and her future holds limitless possibilities.”
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for empowering J&K’s women by granting them their due rights and eliminating discrimination, Sinha stressed the need to address the rising challenge of substance abuse among women. He advised the fellows to conduct a region-specific study to strengthen rehabilitation frameworks.
The LG also released a book titled “Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipal Council in India”, authored by Dr. Nazrul Islam, on the occasion. The event was attended by KWO President Dr. Darakshan Hassan Bhat and senior officials. (KNS)
