Baramulla, May 12 : Deputy Commissioner Baramulla S.H. Fakhruddin on Tuesday said the district administration has prepared a list of all drug peddlers in Baramulla and mapped their immovable properties as part of a sustained crackdown on the narcotics trade.
Addressing a large gathering at Showkat Ali Stadium during a ‘Padyatra’ led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under the 100-day drug-free initiative, the DC, as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said enforcement and rehabilitation were being pursued simultaneously.
“In both police divisions of the district, the list of all drug peddlers has been made, their entire property has been mapped, and work is underway,” DC Fakhruddin said.
He said the awareness programme has been designed for children, youth, and all sections of society. “The aim is not only to increase awareness but also to provide an information network for the police and civil administration,” he added.
On the rehabilitation front, the DC said 2,400 counselling sessions have been held since April 11. “A team of counsellors has been set up. The IPD centre of the rehabilitation centre has been expanded to seven beds,” he said.
Terming the LG’s visit “not just a march but a message and a collective resolution”, DC S.H. Fakhruddin asserted that Baramulla would be made drug-free.
“It is a message for every victim addicted to drugs that the administration will succeed in getting you out of this addiction. It is also a warning for every drug peddler — your entire system will be destroyed,” he said.
The DC assured the LG that the mission was being carried out on his instructions — “do not mess with the innocent and leave the culprits.” (KNS)
