Baramulla, Apr 16 : Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said her biggest political achievement was making top BJP leaders reach the doorstep of late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for talks.

Speaking at a party interactive session ‘Kath Ba’ath’ in Baramulla district, PDP President as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said no other leader had accomplished what she did during her tenure.

“My biggest achievement is that I forced the BJP leaders, the top leaders of India, to come to the doorstep of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for talks, for Kashmir dialogue something no one had done before, and no one else can do,” she said.

The PDP president also claimed that as chief minister, she had written to the central leadership to discuss the Kashmir issue, which she said the BJP is not willing to entertain today.

She further claimed that despite being in a coalition government with the BJP, she got cases against 12,000 young men withdrawn.

Mehbooba alleged that the current National Conference government was not even discussing basic facilities for the people.

“The Kashmir issue is alive, and it will remain alive until we get our verification certificate, until every child here gets a passport. The issue of Kashmir has not been resolved by removing Article 370, and it will not be resolved until there is despair on the faces of our youth,” she added.

Her remarks came a day after advisor to the chief minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, targeted the PDP, holding it responsible for the current situation in the Valley.

Wani had alleged on Wednesday that in 2016, NC president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah had advised Mehbooba Mufti against allying with the BJP.

“However, she did not listen to anyone at that time, and today she does not even feel ashamed to lie and target the National Conference,” Wani had said. (KNS)
