Srinagar, Jul 11 : National Conference MLA Abdul Majeed Larvi on Saturday ruled out any alliance with the BJP, asserting that his party would rather “die” than compromise on its core principles, even as he launched a scathing attack on PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and the saffron party’s state leadership.
“We will never talk to the BJP. We will not ally with them. We will die. We will leave the government. But we will not compromise in any way,” the three-time legislator from the National Conference told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
In a veiled attack on the PDP’s past coalition with the BJP, Larvi questioned the rationale behind Mehbooba Mufti’s recent visit to Iran, while pointing out that no religious leader was allowed on the occasion. “Why was Mehbooba Mufti given free access? Why was no religious leader allowed to travel to Iran?” he asked.
The NC MLA accused the PDP president of pursuing a “hidden agenda” since 2014, the year her party formed a coalition government with the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. “Mehbooba Mufti is running her agenda. She has been running it since 2014. We know from where and how,” he said.
Larvi further claimed that Mehbooba Mufti’s family had deep-rooted ties with the current central establishment. “When Mufti Sahib was the Home Minister here, Ajit Doval was an assistant secretary in his office. And his meetings with Mehbooba were very good. And you have seen her relations with PM Modi and Amit Shah,” he alleged.
The NC MLA termed BJP leader Sunil Sharma “illiterate” and dared him to speak on governance failures. “Sunil Sharma is illiterate. He does not know what I am saying. He is a thief? He is a fool? All the drug addicts in their party, all the thieves are in their party,” he said.
Dismissing allegations of corruption against his own party, Larvi asserted that strict action was taken against anyone found involved in wrongdoing. “The National Conference is not a party of thieves. We have made sacrifices. I will give you an example. There was a man in my constituency. He was a very good worker. But according to my knowledge, people take money from him. I removed him from the party at the same time,” he said.
Reaffirming the party’s ideological commitment, Larvi declared that the NC would continue its fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. “We have fought for this state, for Jammu and Kashmir. And we will keep fighting until we die. Because we will fight for the statehood of 370 and 35A. And we will die too, Inshallah,” the MLA asserted.
He added that NC workers were “soldiers” who offered prayers five times a day, and that any allegations of wrongdoing against them were dealt with firmly. (KNS)
