Jammu, Sept 1 : Minister Javed Ahmed Rana on Monday visited the flood-affected areas of Jammu and interacted with locals.
During the visit, Rana said the administration has started temporary restoration work while permanent restoration measures are being undertaken by concerned departments. “The Jal Shakti, Forest and other departments are engaged in the process. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has been personally monitoring the situation and has also visited Jammu. The Deputy Chief Minister too has toured the city to review the conditions,” he said.
The minister assured that the government is fully aware of the concerns of the people and said their problems will be addressed. “We hope that the Chief Minister will announce a package for Jammu and Kashmir so that the affected regions can overcome the current situation,” he added.
Speaking on the impact of the floods on tribal communities, Rana said many tribal families living in the affected areas have suffered losses. “They have considerable resources and property, and the department has been instructed to take appropriate measures. An alternative arrangement will also be created to ensure they are not left behind,” he stated.
He further said that a damage assessment process is already underway and added that repairs to critical infrastructure have been completed in several places. “The government has constituted an assessment committee that is working on evaluating losses. Restoration is being carried out simultaneously to ease the difficulties of the residents,” Rana said.
When asked whether tribal families might face neglect, Rana clarified that they will not be ignored. “The administration is committed to ensuring that no community is sidelined. All sections of the population affected by the floods will receive due attention,” he said.
Rana emphasized that coordination among departments is essential for restoring normalcy in the affected areas. “We are monitoring the progress regularly, and the Chief Minister’s involvement indicates that the matter is being given priority,” he said.
The minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to providing relief and long-term rehabilitation for the affected families.(KNS)
