Srinagar, Aug 25 : National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday said he would announce his decision in the coming days on party president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s demand that he resign from the Lok Sabha and seek a fresh mandate.
Talking to reporters here, MP Ruhullah as per KNS said, “It is not possible that Doctor Sahib asks me for something and I don’t give it to him. It is not possible that I send him back empty-handed,” the Srinagar MP said.
MP Ruhullah, however, did not indicate whether he would step down and said he would give a definite response in “a few days”.
Dr Farooq Abdullah had on Monday challenged Senior National Conference leader Ruhullah to vacate his seat and face the electorate again if he believed his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls was due to his own political standing and not the party’s support.
“If you think people voted for you, resign and go back to them. We will see how many votes you get,” Dr Farooq Abdullah had said.
The remarks have brought to the fore differences between MP Ruhullah and sections of the party leadership over political strategy and the handling of issues related to Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
