Srinagar, Jan 23 : Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across the Kashmir Valley and Srinagar ahead of the 26th January Republic Day celebrations, officials said on Thursday.

V.K. Birdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, told reporters that the entire valley will witness heightened security measures, with a coordinated deployment of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel alongside paramilitary forces.

He said the main events will be held in different districts, where chief guests will receive salutes, while local observances are also scheduled across the region. “Today, we are here at the Balidan Stump to pay our respects to the martyrs. It is an event to honour their sacrifice,” Birdi said.

The chief IGP added that the main Republic Day function in Srinagar will take place at Bakshi Stadium, featuring a parade involving police personnel, schoolchildren, and members of the public.

Birdi said the security grid has been tightened to ensure smooth and safe conduct of events across the valley, including Srinagar city, amid large public gatherings.(KNS).
