Anantnag, Sep 03 : Several rivers across Jammu and Kashmir are flowing above danger levels following incessant rainfall, raising concerns of flash floods and inundation in low-lying areas.

Officials details accessed by the Kashmir News Service (KNS), states that the Jhelum at Khanabal in
Anantnag is flowing at 1594.86 m, 2.36 m above its danger level of 1592.5 m, while the Jhelum at Fatehpora in Ganderbal has crossed its previous high flood level, now standing at 1585.22 m.

Other rivers in the Valley have also crossed critical thresholds. The Vishow at Arwani in Anantnag is at 1594.49 m, 0.68 m above its previous high flood level.

Rambiara at Watchi in Pulwama is flowing at 1593.5 m, and the Doodganga at Kralpora in Badgam is at 1594.3 m, both above their respective previous high flood levels.
In Jammu district, the Chenab at Bardoh continues to flow in extreme flood situation, standing at 283.165 m, 0.71 m above its previous high flood level.

Amid the rising waters, Anantnag Police carried out a swift rescue operation at Aang Anzwalla, where around 25 nomadic families were stranded due to a sudden surge in the Lidder Nalla.

“Upon receiving information, we immediately dispatched a rescue team to the area,” an official said. “Braving heavy rainfall and strong currents, the personnel, along with local administration and volunteers, safely evacuated all affected families and shifted them to safer locations.”

The rescued families have been provided with essential relief, including food, shelter, and medical assistance. “Our teams continue to monitor the situation closely, and further support will be extended wherever required,” the official added.

Authorities have urged residents living near rivers and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, avoid venturing close to water bodies, and follow official advisories. “Safety is our top priority during this extreme weather,” a district administration spokesperson said.

The situation in the Valley remains tense, with multiple streams and rivers continuing to rise due to persistent rainfall. The administration and police have stepped up monitoring and rescue operations to mitigate risks and ensure public safety.(KNS).
