Srinagar, June 16 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s adviser Nasir Aslam Wani said the ruling National Conference (NC) functions on the basis of its ideology, discipline and collective vision, asserting that no individual is bigger than the party.
Wani’s remarks came amid reports of differences within the party involving Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
“Our politics is guided by the party’s ideology, discipline and collective vision, not by individual opinions. No individual is bigger than the party,” Wani said while speaking to KNS.
Wani said the NC’s political positions are determined by the party’s established system and principles rather than the views of any individual leader.
“We are based on the discipline of our party, the views of our party and the foresight of our party. We are sitting on the platform given to us by Sher-e-Kashmir and we will continue to follow his principles and the principles of the National Conference,” he said.
Referring to Ruhullah, Wani said the MP appeared upset but maintained that party members are expected to work within the framework of the organisation.
“Mr Ruhullah is upset. On one hand, he says the party has done the right thing, and on the other hand there is anger. You should ask him what exactly his views are,” Wani said.
He said political organisations function through collective decision-making and not according to the thinking of individual members.
“A system does not work on the thoughts of an individual. Individuals have to act on the thoughts of the system and within its sphere,” he said.
Wani also invoked NC president Farooq Abdullah while stressing the importance of collective leadership.
“Even Dr Farooq Abdullah says he is nothing as an individual and that the National Conference is supreme. We have learnt to follow the policy and ideology of the organisation,” he said.(KNS)
