Srinagar, July 10 : Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Friday questioned the National Conference government’s promised signature campaign for restoration of statehood, describing its proposed protest in Delhi as an “eye wash” aimed at diverting attention from alleged corruption in the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference, Sharma asked what had happened to the signature campaign that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced last year for the restoration of statehood.
He alleged that the National Conference’s planned protest in Delhi was intended to shift focus from what he described as growing corruption under the present administration.
Claiming that corruption had increased since the formation of the government, Sharma alleged that ministers were involved in corrupt practices and accused the administration of turning transfers into an “industry” for monetary gains. He also alleged that corruption had become the government’s primary agenda.
The BJP leader further announced that his party would launch an agitation against the outsourcing policy in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the protest would begin with a gherao of the Civil Secretariat.
Sharma said the BJP viewed outsourcing as an injustice to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and accused successive National Conference governments of denying employment opportunities to young people over the years.(KNS)
