Jammu, May 21 : Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday blamed bureaucrats for the ongoing demolition drive in Jammu’s Sidhra, asserting that no houses would be razed once statehood is restored to the Union Territory.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) on the sidelines of his visit to Baramulla MP Er Rashid’s home to offer condolences on his father’s demise, the Deputy CM termed the demolition “highly condemnable” and said that the elected government was not behind the action.
“It is unfortunate that we don’t have our own cadres, IPS and IAS officers, in our government. Today, the same officers are sitting in their offices and making decisions,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Government of India (GOI) had promised the people of J&K that statehood and special status would be restored after the assembly elections.
“We hope they keep their promise. As soon as they restore statehood and special status, we guarantee that not a single house will fall,” he said. (KNS)
