Mumbai, Jan 18: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday recalled his college days in Mumbai while saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now bears the responsibility of the city’s development after its performance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Speaking to reporters after participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon, Abdullah said the BJP had secured the highest number of seats in the civic body, placing the onus on the party to meet the expectations of Mumbai’s residents.

“The BJP has got the maximum number of seats. It therefore becomes their responsibility to ensure the development of Mumbai. The people of the city have given them this opportunity,” he said.

Reflecting on his time in the city, the Chief Minister said he had spent three years in Mumbai as a college student and noted the scale of change in its infrastructure over the years.

“When I was studying here, one could not have imagined projects of the scale of the Coastal Road,” Abdullah said, referring to the city’s evolving urban landscape.

He participated in the marathon, an annual event promoting fitness and public engagement.(KNS)
