Jammu, Mar 30 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said her party has introduced several bills in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly aimed at restoring public trust and strengthening the institution.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly here, Mufti said the PDP, as an opposition party, is working to rebuild the Assembly “brick by brick,” asserting that the institution has lost its strength since 2019.
She said multiple bills have been brought forward by her party, including those related to daily wage workers, land rights, and the creation of a separate division for Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal regions.
Mufti said the land rights bill seeks to provide ownership to people who have been living on land for many years, while raising concerns over the condition of daily wage workers. “Their economic situation is very poor and their families are struggling. Despite running government departments, they remain unregularised,” she said.
She also referred to the government’s promises on employment, including providing jobs to one lakh youth, and called for action on issues related to reservation and rationalisation.
The PDP chief said both the government and opposition need to work together to address what she termed the “disempowerment” of the Assembly and restore its effectiveness.
Mufti also made remarks on international developments, expressing hope that Iran would prevail in the ongoing conflict, while stating that soldiers from other countries were unwilling to fight.
She reiterated that key issues concerning governance and public welfare can be addressed within the framework of the Union Territory and do not necessarily require statehood for legislative action.(KNS).
