Bandipora, Feb 12: In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking, Bandipora Police on Wednesday attached the immovable property of a notorious drug peddler in Ward No. 5, Sheikh Mohalla, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The attached property comprises a three-storey residential house with an attic belonging to Mohd Shafi Sheikh, son of Mohd Shahbaz Sheikh, a resident of the area.

Police said the accused is involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Police Station Bandipora, including FIR No. 110/2022 and FIR No. 183/2022, both under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

During the investigation, the property was identified as allegedly acquired through illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, police officials said. The accused had earlier been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, and has since been released.

Officials said the attachment is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers and curb the menace of narcotics in the district.

The move has been widely welcomed by local residents, who praised Bandipora Police for targeting properties allegedly generated through illegal drug trade.

Bandipora Police reiterated their commitment to continue strict action against individuals involved in narcotics trafficking and safeguard youth from the growing threat of drugs.(KNS)
