Srinagar, Apr 5 : Rain in the plains and fresh snowfall in higher reaches led to a drop in temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir, the Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6°C, down from the previous day, while the minimum settled at 6.7°C.

Other places in the Kashmir Valley also witnessed lower temperatures, with Pahalgam recording a maximum of 15.7°C and Gulmarg at 7.8°C. Kupwara and Qazigund also reported a dip in day temperatures.

In the Jammu division, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 30.1°C, while Banihal, Batote and Bhaderwah experienced cooler conditions following rainfall.

The department said light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts, with Kukernag receiving 14.6 mm and Banihal 8.5 mm of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

Snowfall was reported in higher reaches, while most plains received rainfall, contributing to the overall fall in temperatures.

The MeT department is monitoring the situation and has indicated that weather conditions may remain variable in the coming days.(KNS)
