Srinagar, Jul 8 : Former District Development Council (DDC) chairperson of Baramulla, Safina Baig, joined the ruling National Conference (NC) on Wednesday, giving the party a political boost in north Kashmir.
Safina, wife of former deputy chief minister and PDP co-founder Muzaffar Hussain Baig, was inducted into the party at the NC headquarters here in the presence of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several senior leaders.
Among those present on the occasion were Rural Development Minister Javid Ahmad Dar, senior NC leaders Ali Mohammad Sagar and Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan.
Welcoming Safina into the party fold, the NC leadership expressed confidence that her experience and public outreach would further strengthen the organisation, particularly in Baramulla district.
Her entry into the National Conference comes at a time when the party enjoys a strong electoral presence in Baramulla, having won six of the district’s seven Assembly constituencies in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
Safina previously served as the chairperson of the Baramulla District Development Council.(KNS).
