Says CM Omar Assured Congress Leadership Issues Will Be Looked Into

Muhammad Suhail

Jammu, Feb 02 (KNS): The National Conference on Monday moved to defuse a simmering crisis within the ruling alliance, with senior minister Javid Ahmad Dar announcing that a coordination committee will be constituted to address grievances raised by coalition partner Congress.

The decision, conveyed after a crucial meeting of alliance legislators with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, signals an attempt to stabilise the coalition amid public expressions of dissatisfaction from Congress leaders.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Cabinet Minister Javid Ahmad Dar said the Chief Minister had assured the Congress leadership that their concerns would be addressed. “A committee will be formed, comprising members from both the National Conference and the Congress, and it will be headed by the Deputy Chief Minister from the National Conference side,” Dar stated.

He sought to downplay the tensions, framing the discussions as part of routine pre-budget session strategy. “It was a legislative party meeting focused on floor management. However, the Congress raised certain issues, and the Chief Minister has given assurances,” Dar added.

The minister’s reaction comes as a direct response to strong remarks earlier this evening from Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat, who had voiced “strong grievances” over the alliance’s functioning.

Bhat stated that the alliance had failed to deliver on collective commitments despite being formed to counter the BJP’s “aggression and attitude.”

While legislator Bhat, speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), asserted that the “pre-poll alliance” remains intact, he termed its current state as “not satisfactory,” highlighting underlying strains within the coalition.

The formation of the coordination committee is seen as a tactical move by the ruling National Conference to placate its partner and present a united front ahead of the budget session, preventing the opposition BJP from capitalising on the internal rift. (KNS)
