Srinagar, Nov 27: Srinagar experienced its coldest night of the season on Thursday as temperatures dipped to –4.4°C, marking a sharp fall and intensifying the winter chill across the Kashmir Valley.

The drop in temperature resulted in frost formation on roads, vehicles and rooftops, with water supply pipes freezing in several localities.

According to Kashmir Weather, most stations across the Valley recorded sub-zero temperatures. Pampore (–5.5°C), Anantnag (–5.7°C), Baramulla (–5.8°C), and Pulwama (–5.8°C) witnessed a severe cold wave, while Shopian remained the coldest inhabited area at –6.5°C.

Tourist destination Pahalgam recorded –5.0°C, whereas Gulmarg settled at –1.0°C. The Srinagar Airport registered –5.2°C, and Zojila Pass recorded the lowest at –16.0°C.

In the Jammu region, conditions remained comparatively warmer. Jammu (8.7°C), Katra (8.5°C) and Kathua (8.2°C) saw moderate temperatures, while Banihal dipped to –1.5°C. Bhaderwah recorded 0.4°C and Rajouri 2.0°C, indicating a northward spread of colder conditions.

In Ladakh, the mercury continued to remain well below the freezing point, with Kargil at –9.5°C, Leh at –8.6°C and Nubra at –7.7°C.(KNS).
