Srinagar, Feb 21 : In a bid to ease traffic congestion in the summer capital, authorities are developing a magnetised road in the Barzulla area and have proposed staggered timings for educational institutions, a senior official said on Saturday.

SSP Traffic City, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that the Research and Development (R&D) department has constructed a magnetised road along the Bund in Barzulla to enhance connectivity to the new block in the area.

“There is also a proposal for a ramp to augment parking space. This will improve mobility for the new block in Barzulla,” Bhat told KNS.

He said efforts are underway to connect the new Barzulla block to Chanpura via the Bund. “The R&B examiner has informed us that the DPR has been forwarded, and the work will be completed within this financial year.”

The SSP added that the route will extend from Chanpura to the right bank, linking with Sanat Nagar.

Regarding the Barzulla underpass bridge, he said it would facilitate traffic from Bulbul Bagh, although it will be restricted to small vehicles.

With schools, colleges, and offices set to reopen, Bhat acknowledged a likely increase in traffic volume. “We are monitoring the situation, particularly during Sehri and Iftari hours. We have proposed staggered timings for different schools to the government. If implemented, it will significantly improve traffic flow,” he added. (KNS)
