Sub-zero temperatures persist across Kashmir, Gulmarg coldest at minus 5°C

Srinagar, Jan 21 : Cold conditions continued across the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday as several places recorded sub-zero minimum temperatures, according to data.

Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded the lowest temperature in the region at minus 5 degrees Celsius, while Sonamarg and Shopian also settled at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius each. Pulwama recorded a low of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, Anantnag minus 4.2 degrees, and Beerwah in Budgam minus 4.1 degrees.

Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while the Srinagar airport registered minus 3.4 degrees.

Other places including Qazigund, Kupwara, Pampore, Awantipora, Budgam and Sopore witnessed temperatures hovering around minus 3 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, minimum temperatures were relatively higher, though Banihal recorded minus 2.3 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 1.8 degrees.

Jammu city recorded a minimum of 7.2 degrees Celsius, while Jammu airport settled at 7.4 degrees. Katra recorded 7 degrees, Kathua 6 degrees, and Poonch 5.7 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological officials said cold wave conditions are likely to persist in higher reaches, while plains may witness gradual improvement in night temperatures over the coming days.(KNS).
