Srinagar, Nov 12 (TKM) : A two-day national seminar titled “Understanding Iqbal: An Interdisciplinary Approach” concluded on Wednesday at the Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, University of Kashmir.
According to a press release issued, The seminar, which began on November 11, brought together eminent scholars, researchers, and students from across the country to explore the multifaceted dimensions of Allama Iqbal’s thought through diverse academic perspectives.
The inaugural session was held at the Centre for Distance and Online Learning, KU, with Prof. Sharief-u-Din, Dean Academic Affairs, as the Guest of Honour, and Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar University of Kashmir, as the Special Guest. Eminent Urdu writer and critic Prof. Quddus Javed delivered the keynote address, offering a deep analysis of Iqbal’s philosophical vision and its relevance in contemporary times.
In his address, Prof. Naseer Iqbal reflected on his lifelong engagement with Iqbal’s poetry, describing it as a living dialogue between man, God, and the times we live in. Prof. Sharief-u-Din Pirzada, in his remarks as Chief Guest, underscored the importance of understanding Iqbal as a visionary whose intellectual legacy continues to inspire moral, educational, and interfaith renewal.
The inaugural session also featured recitation of Qalam-e-Iqbal by Dr.Fayaz Ahmad Wani. The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Asrar Ahmad Khan, while Dr. Wasim Iqbal Nehvi delivered the vote of thanks.
Following the inauguration, technical sessions were held where scholars including Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai, Dr. Mohammad Maroof Shah, Mr. Bilal Ahmad, and Ms. Zareena Maqbool presented papers on Iqbal’s philosophy. The sessions were chaired by Prof. Ab. Rashid Bhat, with participation from Prof. Tauqeer Ahmad Khan and Prof. Quddus Javed.
On the concluding day, two technical sessions were held, featuring presentations by Prof. Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi, Dr. Rukhsana Rahim, Dr. Wasim Iqbal Nehvi, Dr. Abdullah Imtiyaz, Dr. Afaq Aziz, Dr. Masarat Geelani, and several others. The discussions explored Iqbal’s concepts of Khudi, his engagement with modernity, and his contribution to interreligious understanding.
The seminar concluded with remarks from the chair, who commended the scholarly contributions and reaffirmed the Institute’s dedication to promoting interdisciplinary research on Iqbal’s legacy. Prof. Altaf Anjum, Coordinator of the Iqbal Institute, extended special thanks to all dignitaries, paper presenters, research scholars, and participants for their active involvement in making the seminar a success.(TKM)
