Sopore, Jan 15 : In a joint operation, by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Forest Department officials conducted a raid on a joinery unit in Sopore and seized a vehicle laden with illicit timber, officials said.

Reports reaching News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that during the operation, 51 cubic feet of Deodar timber was recovered from the spot. The timber was being transported illegally, prompting immediate action by the joint team.

Authorities have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case in depth. An investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal felling and transportation of forest produce.

Officials said strict action will be taken against all those found involved, reiterating the administration’s commitment to curb timber smuggling and protect forest resources. (KNS)
