Baramulla, Oct 11: Rise Up Youth Foundation on Sunday organised a one-day volleyball tournament at Bangla Ground, Kalayban, under its flagship programme ‘Irada-e-Rahat’, aimed at promoting sports among young people and raising awareness about drug abuse.

According to a statement issued by the Foundation, the tournament was organised to encourage youth to participate in constructive activities and adopt healthy lifestyles through sports.

The event also sought to promote discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship while highlighting the importance of keeping young people away from substance abuse.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Foundation Chairman Anush Shanaz Khan, with the support of Vice-Chairman Danish Shafi, General Secretary Mohammad Akram Khan, board members and volunteers.

DSP Headquarters Baramulla Shahjahan, Major Mandeep of 46 Rashtriya Rifles and officers from Police Station Sheeri attended the event.

The organisers said the participation of police and Army officers highlighted the importance of cooperation between civil society organisations, security forces and local communities in promoting youth welfare.

Several teams and young players participated in the tournament, which provided an opportunity to encourage healthy competition and spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.

The Foundation said the initiative was aligned with the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir and Nasha Mukt Bharat campaigns.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of the Foundation stressed the need for sustained awareness campaigns, community participation and sporting activities to prevent drug abuse among young people.

They said the Irada-e-Rahat programme would continue focusing on youth empowerment, drug-abuse prevention and community development through awareness and engagement activities.

The Foundation thanked the participating teams, dignitaries, volunteers, officials and local residents for their support and reiterated its commitment to organising similar programmes across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
