Gulmarg, Feb 20 ; The annual winter games in north Kashmir’s Gulmarg will help local youth build a career in sports, an official said on Friday, asserting that all arrangements have been put in place for the event.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the games provide a rare opportunity for young athletes from the Valley to showcase their talent at the national level.
“This is a very good opportunity for the youth of the entire valley to showcase their talent. It is a very good platform to represent the union territory and the country at the national and international level,” Sherpa told KNS on the sidelines of an event in the skiing resort.
The deputy commissioner expressed gratitude to the Indian Army and the Winter Games organisers for their consistent support.
“I am very thankful to the Indian Army and the authorities for holding this every year. Our youth get a platform here to showcase their talent and start their future career,” he said.
Sherpa said the administration has completed all logistical arrangements for the upcoming games and is ready to welcome athletes from across the country.
“We have already made all arrangements for the winter games. We are just waiting for our athletes to come and welcome them from all over the country so that they get a good experience,” he added.
The DC expressed hope that the visiting athletes would go back as ambassadors of the region’s potential. “They can go back to their states as ambassadors of the entire Gulmarg and Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. (KNS)
