Srinagar, Apr 23 : Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Thursday attacked National Conference (NC) government in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging administrative paralysis and accusing ministers of remaining “invisible on the ground” as the Union Territory faces water, power and road crises.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the senior BJP leader claimed governance had come to a halt after the October 2024 assembly polls, with the administration preoccupied with “marathons, cycling, skiing and 5-star dinners” instead of addressing public grievances.

“Corruption is touching the sky. Send a common man to a tehsildar or BDO, he works only after paying money. The industry of transfers is wide open,” Sunil Sharma alleged.

The Leader of Opposition also targeted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds 17 departments, saying no review meeting had been called so far. “He changes three dresses a day. Apart from that, I have seen nothing,” Sharma said, challenging the NC to answer its unfulfilled promises on free cylinders, free electricity and 100,000 jobs.

On the recent security incident involving former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, BJP leader demanded a thorough investigation, questioning why the NC veteran had not shared any threat inputs with the police.

“Did Farooq Abdullah give any information to the police? No, he didn’t. So, did he have a dream about it?” the BJP leader asked.

He stated that the individual linked to the incident had no criminal record. “He is not a terrorist. This should be investigated,” Sharma said, adding that the remark about being “ready for 20 years” suggested a personal issue rather than a systemic threat.

Dismissing any security threat to the Abdullah family, the Leader of Opposition said, “There is no security threat to the Abdullah family. They have so much security that I feel the army is not here. I was scared at a function. Not as many guests had come as security personnel.”

Expressing surprise over CM Omar Abdullah’s demand for statehood, Sharma said, “I am surprised that Omar Abdullah became the chief minister and then started demanding statehood.” (KNS)
