Srinagar, Aug 28 : The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, stated that the administration is fully mobilized across the region with all departments working in coordination to ensure public safety during the ongoing monsoon rains.
In a press briefing in Srinagar, Garg highlighted that local authorities, including the Army, Police, SDRF, and civil administration, have been deployed across the Valley. The Flood Control Department is continuously monitoring the Jhelum and its tributaries, he said.
Garg confirmed that the water levels at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh have started to decrease. He reassured that there have been no breaches in any embankments over the past two days, despite the high water levels in the Jhelum.
The authorities are also addressing illegal sand mining along riverbanks, he added.
The Divisional Commissioner warned that the next two weeks remain critical due to the ongoing monsoon season, which lasts until mid-September.
He advised the public to adhere to weather advisories and emphasized that the administration will continue its round-the-clock operations. Emergency contact numbers are active.
In addition, Garg mentioned that teams from SDRF and NDRF have been placed at key locations, and over 150 sensitive areas are being monitored.
“Efforts to resolve mobile network issues, particularly with BSNL, are underway under the guidance of the Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor,” he said, adding that while water levels are decreasing, the situation remains under control and there is no immediate cause for panic.
