Srinagar, Dec 20 : Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Saturday said the administration has made necessary preparations for the upcoming snowfall, especially in higher reaches and border areas, expressing hope that the winter season will also give a boost to tourism in the Valley.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a handicrafts and handlooms exhibition organised to mark the beginning of Chillai Kalan, Garg said the administration was prepared for snowfall along key axes, including Zojila and border regions, and that adequate arrangements had been put in place across the Valley.

“We hope snowfall will continue in the coming winter season, especially in the higher reaches and border areas. Preparations have been made by the administration, and we also expect an increase in tourism,” Garg said as per KNS.

Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner congratulated the Handicrafts and Handlooms Department for organising the exhibition, saying it reflected Kashmir’s age-old traditions and cultural warmth. He said such events highlight Kashmiriyat and provide a platform to artisans who have kept traditional crafts alive for centuries.

“This exhibition represents our tradition, the warmth of Kashmir and the hard work of our artisans. It is encouraging to see the participation of youth as well,” he said.

Garg also praised initiatives like Know Your Artisan and handholding of weavers and traditional craftsmen, saying these efforts have strengthened the presence of the handicrafts sector in Srinagar and beyond.(KNS)
