Srinagar, May 31 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday took a swipe at the opposition over speculation surrounding his upcoming meeting with National Conference legislators, saying those making the most noise about the gathering knew the least about its agenda.

“I love how the people who know the least about the meeting I’ve called with my MLAs are talking the most. Remember one thing – those who know don’t speak and those who speak sit in the opposition,” Abdullah wrote in a post on X.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came hours after Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma questioned the purpose of the June 3 meeting and launched a sharp attack on the National Conference leadership.

According to sources, Abdullah has convened a meeting of NC legislators and independent MLAs supporting the ruling alliance at his Gupkar residence on June 3. Governance and public welfare issues are expected to figure prominently in the discussions.

Sources said the meeting is also likely to review the functioning of various departments and assess developmental works across constituencies.

The meeting assumes significance amid reports of discontent among some ruling party legislators over the allocation of development projects and funds.

Several legislators are learnt to have raised concerns with the Chief Minister regarding the functioning of a minister, alleging that certain constituencies were receiving preferential treatment in the distribution of projects and resources.

Without naming anyone, Sharma alleged that Abdullah would not resign from office under any circumstances and accused the National Conference of prioritising power over public interest.

He also claimed that the Chief Minister was convening the meeting to prevent internal differences within the party from becoming public.

The National Conference has not officially disclosed the agenda of the June 3 meeting, while party leaders have largely refrained from commenting on reports regarding internal grievances.(KNS).
