Jammu, Mar 29 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has informed the Legislative Assembly that a Cabinet sub-committee report on the rationalisation of the reservation policy is pending with the competent authority, with no timeline set for its implementation.

In a written reply to a question by PDP MLA from Budgam, Aga Syed Muntazir, Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo said the sub-committee, constituted to examine various aspects of the reservation policy in the Union Territory, has already submitted its report to the Council of Ministers.

“Presently the said report is under consideration before the competent authority. The implementation shall follow after approval by the competent authority,” the minister said.

Responding to queries on the delay, the government said no specific timeline has been fixed yet. However, it added that the existing reservation policy and relevant statutory provisions continue to remain in force as an interim measure to address the concerns of affected stakeholders.

The issue of reservation rationalisation remains sensitive in J&K, with various communities seeking a revision of quotas. The government’s response indicated no immediate changes to the current policy until the competent authority clears the sub-committee’s recommendations. (KNS)
