Jammu, Mar 29 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday hailed the Jammu Marathon as a symbol of the “profound transformation” in the Union Territory, asserting that the region has claimed its rightful place on the global sporting map following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony at MA Stadium, LG Sinha as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the long-cherished dreams of the people, delayed for seven decades, are turning into reality under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The Jammu Marathon symbolises the transformation J&K has embraced since 2019. Peace, prosperity and enabling conditions have made the UT a destination for world-class events,” LG Sinha said.

He recalled that when the Centre first conceived the Kashmir Marathon in December 2023, the objective was not merely to organise a race but to envision a new Jammu and Kashmir announcing its arrival on the global stage.

“Under the leadership of PM Modi, J&K is now showcasing its boundless tourism potential on the world map. Few years ago, no one would have imagined J&K hosting international events. Today, participants themselves are witnesses to the positive changes,” the LG added.

The maiden international half-marathon in Jammu, organised by the J&K Tourism department, featured 21 km, 10 km and 5 km categories and witnessed participation of over 3,000 runners from across the country and abroad.

LG Sinha invited tourists and participants to visit the UT and experience the ground realities of the post-August 2019 era. (KNS)
