Doda, Sep 13 : Days after MLA Mehraj Malik was booked under the Public Safety Act and shifted to Kathua Jail, Deputy Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh said the situation in the district is under control.

Speaking after a meeting with civil society members, market associations, and transport associations, Singh said officials discussed issues faced by residents during the past four days of curfew and internet restrictions.

He said the meeting covered supply disruptions caused by the closure of the National Highway in Udhampur and transportation challenges due to restrictions under Section 163.

Singh said markets can function as usual, but gatherings of more than five people are not allowed. He added that arrangements have been made to ensure vehicles can operate and that mobile and internet connectivity will be reviewed periodically.

He said areas including Doda, Badarwa, and Thatri subdivisions have been fully eased and markets reopened. Restrictions will continue in certain areas, and major markets where law and order concerns were observed will remain under monitoring.

The Deputy Commissioner also said schools and colleges are required to obtain safety certificates, and the process is expected to be completed before Monday. He said children in the district will be able to attend schools normally from then.

Since Friday, no untoward incident has been reported in Doda district.(KNS).
