Srinagar, Sept 13 : Additional Director General of Police (Armed) Anand Jain on Saturday said that Jashn-e-Dal is not just about water sports but also a platform to connect people, inspire youth, and strengthen police-public relations.

Speaking at the 26th edition of Jashn-e-Dal, Jain said the initiative was started in 1999 and has now become a yearly feature. “This year dragon boats are being introduced for competitions. More than 700 participants are competing across 20 disciplines, many of which are played at Asian Games, Olympics, and national level,” he said.

According to KNS, Jain appreciated the enthusiasm of young athletes, some as young as 8 and 9 years old, taking part in the event. “I hope these children take up sports professionally and achieve recognition at the national level,” he added.

The ADGP said such events have huge potential to boost tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. He also announced that the first week of October will see the All India Cluster Judo Championship in Srinagar, where around 3,000 athletes from across the country will participate.

Highlighting the importance of water sports, Jain said training programmes have been scheduled to help athletes compete at national events. “Events like these serve as a bridge, creating a neutral space where everyone connects. It strengthens bonds between the police and the public,” he Said. (KNS)
