Srinagar, Oct 07: Several higher-altitude regions of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall over the past 24 hours, marking an early onset of winter in the region.

According to official data, Sadhna Top recorded the highest accumulation with 18 to 20 inches of snow, followed by Sinthan Top with 14 to 18 inches, and Peer Ki Gali with 12 to 15 inches.

The Zojila Pass received around 6 to 7 inches, while tourist hotspots Sonamarg and Pahalgam saw lighter snowfall of 2 to 3 inches and 1 to 2 inches respectively.

Accompanying the snowfall, temperatures have plummeted across the Valley. Gulmarg became the first location in Kashmir to record sub-zero temperatures this season, with the mercury dipping to -0.4°C early Tuesday morning.

Pahalgam also recorded a chilly 0.6°C, indicating a sharp drop in minimum temperatures for this time of year.(KNS).
