Srinagar, Jan 29 : The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Department on Thursday implemented an alternate-day traffic plan for the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) following damage to the road surface at Kishtwari Pather.
According to officials, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to ply from both sides of the highway on Friday, subject to favourable weather conditions.
Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will not be allowed on the highway on Friday as part of the new regulatory measure, officials told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
Security convoys have been allotted a specific time slot for movement from Srinagar towards Jammu on Friday. They have been instructed to coordinate with the Traffic Control Unit in Ramban prior to departure to prevent traffic bottlenecks between Ramban and Banihal.
Officials further advised travellers, especially operators of HMVs, to avoid night travel due to risks posed by shooting stones and landslides, recommending daytime journeys instead.
All major alternate routes the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, and the Mughal Road — remained closed for a third consecutive day owing to heavy snowfall, officials said.
Officials further added commuters have been urged to confirm the latest road status with traffic control units before starting their journey. (KNS)
