Jammu & Kashmir created history by lifting their maiden Ranji Trophy title after a dominant performance against Karnataka cricket team in the 91st edition of the tournament.
The final ended in a draw on Saturday, but J&K were crowned champions on the basis of a massive 291-run first-innings lead. The captains shook hands at 2:11 PM, officially confirming what had been clear for more than a day — Jammu & Kashmir were the new Ranji Trophy winners.
Resuming their second innings comfortably ahead, J&K batters Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra ensured there were no late surprises. Both players scored brilliant centuries, with Qamran remaining unbeaten on 160 and Lotra making 101 not out. Their partnership removed any slight hope Karnataka had of staging a comeback.
Earlier, J&K had posted a commanding 584 in the first innings. Shubham Pundir led the charge with 121 runs, while Yawer Hassan contributed a valuable 88. Karnataka replied with 293, despite a fighting 160 from captain Mayank Agarwal.
Auqib Nabi starred with the ball, claiming five wickets in the first innings and finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the season. His consistent performances throughout the tournament played a key role in J&K’s remarkable campaign.
Under the leadership of Paras Dogra, who finally lifted his maiden Ranji title after a long domestic career spanning over two decades and more than 10,000 runs, the team showed determination and belief. From defeating strong sides like Mumbai and Delhi to beating Madhya Pradesh and Bengal in the knockouts, J&K proved their strength across conditions.
This historic triumph marks a proud and defining moment for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, giving the region a reason to celebrate and believe in a brighter sporting future.(KNS)
