Srinagar, Mar 29 : The 5th Jammu & Kashmir UT-Level Carrom Championship 2025–26 commenced on Sunday at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, with around 365 players from across the Union Territory participating in the event.
The championship is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association in association with the District Srinagar Carrom Association and in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, which is sponsoring the event.
The event was declared open in a simple function by members of the association, while the formal inaugural ceremony is scheduled to be held on Monday at 11:30 am, organisers said.
Participants from various districts are competing in four categories — cadet, sub-junior, junior and senior — across boys, girls, men and women segments.
Among those present on the occasion were association office bearers including General Secretary Mudasir Khan, Treasurer Arif Sultan, Joint Secretary Sheikh Saqib and Vice President Adfar Mehraj, along with officials of the sports council and affiliated district units.
In the opening day matches, Mohd Hayyan and Riyan Nazir won their respective cadet boys fixtures, while Fatima Farooq and Hadiya Fayaz emerged victorious in the cadet girls category.
In sub-junior boys, Ahsan Elahi and Mohd Aneeq registered wins, while Fareen Mukhtar and Maheena Farooq won their matches in the girls section.
In junior boys, Ayan Sajad Shalla and Shahid Gul emerged winners, while Zarkat-ul-Nisa and Ifran Gulzar secured victories in junior girls matches.
In the senior men’s category, Furqan Manzoor and Fadeel Tariq won their matches, while Faika Altaf and Safiya Showkat emerged winners in the senior women’s section.
The organisers expressed satisfaction over the participation and said such events would help promote the sport at the district and Union Territory levels by providing a competitive platform to players.(KNS).
