Srinagar, July 12 : Director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jehangir Bakshi, on Saturday said the 145-year-old Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital is on track to be developed into a full-fledged Apex Super Speciality Institute under the Directorate of Health.

“This hospital has been serving people for centuries, and our focus now is to make it an apex institute,” Dr. Bakshi said while speaking to reporters. “Very soon, all the new and high-tech machines will be installed here to expand the range of services,” he added,

“JLNM Hospital is continuously expanding. Every year, we try to add new departments, new facilities, and modern equipment. MRI will be installed soon, and new allergy testing machines are on the way,” he said.

Highlighting a historic milestone, he said JLNM Hospital became the first district hospital in the country to launch its own medical journal.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“For the first time, a district hospital in India has released its journal. This is a proud moment for the Directorate of Health,” he said.

In addition to the journal launch, the hospital also hosted its first Allergy Conference, which witnessed participation from all major hospitals and medical colleges of the Kashmir Valley. “This is a triple moment for us — we had a journal release, postgraduate research presentations with awards, and an allergy conference all in one day,” he said.

Responding to questions about staff strength, he acknowledged a shortage of paramedic staff across the health sector. “There is a shortage of paramedic staff across the board, including in directorate and medical colleges. But the government has taken it seriously, and you will soon hear about extraordinary steps being taken to address it,” he said.(KNS)
