Srinagar, Oct 21 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the nation recognises the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in maintaining peace and security in the Union Territory and acknowledged the contribution of its personnel who continue to serve under difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day event, Sinha paid homage to the police personnel who lost their lives while performing their duties. He said 1,614 personnel have made the supreme sacrifice and that their families will continue to receive the support of the administration.

According to KNS, Sinha said J&K Police have been leading operations on various fronts and are an important pillar in maintaining public order. He said police personnel remain engaged round the clock in their work and often perform duties without breaks or holidays.

He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, along with security forces, have shown firm resolve against terrorism during the past five years. Sinha said collective efforts are needed to ensure that those involved in acts of violence or their supporters do not succeed in disturbing normal life.

The Lieutenant Governor also spoke about changes introduced in the country’s criminal justice system, saying the new legal framework focuses on justice and citizen rights.

He said there is a need to use modern tools to deal with misinformation and urged the use of technology to identify and act against those who spread false information.

Sinha called upon everyone present to renew their commitment to peace, stability and cooperation with the police in their ongoing efforts to secure the region and maintain public safety.(KNS)
