Srinagar, Sep 22 : Between 11 and 21 September 2025, the Indian Railways dispatched 19 apple trains from the stations of Budgam, Anantnag, and Baramulla, carrying a total of 5,42,699 boxes of apples to markets in Delhi, Jammu, and other destinations, officials said.

The special services are part of efforts to ensure smooth movement of Kashmir’s horticultural produce during the peak harvest season.

Railway officials said the bulk of the consignments originated from Anantnag station, which accounted for 4,30,013 boxes loaded across ten trains. The station also recorded a single-day high on 20 September, when 91,662 boxes were dispatched in one day

From Budgam station, 94,388 boxes were transported in eight trains, in addition to 225 walnut bags and 74 walnut giri boxes, according to the figures. At Baramulla station, one train carried 18,298 boxes, comprising 18,098 apple boxes and 200 pear boxes, officials added.

The data, officials said, highlights the growing reliance on the railway network for transporting Kashmir’s apple crop to outside markets. The timely dispatches are seen as critical in maintaining supply chains and providing economic support to growers across the Valley.(KNS).
