Srinagar, Jul 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said properties worth Rs 188.9 crore have been attached, 20,292 FIRs registered, and 292 accused detained under the PIT-NDPS Act during Jammu and Kashmir’s 100-day anti-drug campaign.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre here, LG Sinha as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) asserted that the crackdown would continue with greater determination.
“We are far from done. This campaign will intensify further,” Sinha said, terming the drive a “mass people’s movement” rather than a routine government exercise.
The Lt Governor, who undertook padyatras across nearly all districts during the campaign, said the administration had focused not only on enforcement but also on understanding the human cost of the drug menace.
“I met families who have lost their children to addiction. Their pain is real, and it is our collective responsibility to act,” he said.
According to official data shared by LG Sinha, the 100-day drive led to the identification of thousands of drug hotspots, destruction of large quantities of contraband, and action against hundreds of driving licences, passports and arms licences linked to offenders.
The attachment of properties worth nearly Rs 189 crore, he said, was aimed at “dismantling the financial backbone” of drug syndicates.
Issuing a stern warning to traffickers, LG Sinha said “Those who believe they can continue destroying the lives of our youth are mistaken. The law will track you down and it will be unforgiving.”
The Lt Governor also stressed the need for a compassionate approach alongside punitive action, emphasising that rehabilitation and counselling were equally critical.
“Addiction is a disease, and those affected need our support to return to normal life,” he said, acknowledging the role of families, teachers, religious leaders and civil society in both prevention and recovery.
LG Sinha appealed to the public to share information about drug peddlers with the police, saying the campaign was not just a government exercise but a battle requiring every citizen’s participation.
He also said the campaign had exposed the deep nexus between drug trafficking and terror networks in the Valley.
“Narco-terror is a reality, and we are committed to destroying this ecosystem completely,” LG Sinha asserted.
The Lt Governor credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s regular reviews for providing the larger framework, while noting that the J&K administration had tailored its approach to local realities.
LG Sinha reiterated that the ultimate goal was a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir where every young person could contribute positively to society.
“There will be no let-up in our efforts until we achieve this,” he said. (KNS)
