Srinagar, Feb 05 : Residents of several municipal wards in Beerwah town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, have raised concerns over an alleged lapse in garbage collection over the past two weeks. The lapse has led to a significant accumulation of waste in public areas.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) indicate that the affected localities include Ward No. 5 (Samie Colony), Ward No. 7, Ward No. 9, Ward No. 10, and adjoining areas.
Residents report that municipal workers have not cleared waste bins, resulting in refuse piling up on roadsides and near homes. “The stench is unbearable, and it is becoming difficult to breathe in this environment,” said Mohd Ayoub, a resident of Ward No. 10. Another resident expressed worry that the unhygienic conditions could lead to disease outbreaks, particularly affecting children and elderly individuals
Riyaz Ahmed, a resident of Samie Colony, told Kashmir News Service (KNS), “Our dustbins have not been cleaned for the last two weeks. Despite repeated complaints, no municipal staff has visited our area.”
Meanwhile, residents have urgently requested the Beerwah Municipal Committee to restore regular sanitation services and ensure proper cleanliness across all wards. They warned of potential protests if the situation is not resolved promptly.
Responding to the allegations, a senior official from the Beerwah Municipal Committee told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), “Some disruption occurred due to recent snowfall, but services have been largely restored since Tuesday. Sanitation workers are sweeping all areas. If any spot has been missed, the department will act promptly to provide relief to the people.” (KNS)
